Story

Discover the creation of Epicurian Paris Edition, by independent sellers and bartenders

On 8 July 2019, Douglas Laing invited four spirit merchants and two bartenders to get together at the La Maison du Whisky LAB and try their hand at whisky blending. Based on the five Lowland single malts found in the classic version, The Epicurean Paris Edition is a reworked recipe exclusive to the French market.

We've all tried to create a blend here... generally without much success! Luckily we have had help... because in the start the result was more like a Scallywag!"

Adrien DelivreVinomancie, Luzarches (Val d'Oise)

We wanted to create a progressive whisky with a marked difference between the nose, the start of the palate and the end of the palate. I can imagine using this blend to make an old fahsioned. I love twisting up this cocktail with a peated whisky and adding a drop of maple syrup to give it a little sweetness, softness and a hint of dried fruit.

The idea of offering our customers a high-quality product that we helped create ourselves will obviously make it more exciting to talk about... And our customers should be more receptive to it too!

Christophe VidalLa Cave de Tolbiac, Paris XIII

This experience was incredible, working with whiskies to find a recipe and create a blend enabled us to get a better understanding of the products. And to be able to do that with other experts we didn't know from a variety of backgrounds was very educational!

Davide Piccone CasaMoonshiner, Paris XI

The taste of sellers and bartenders are brought together to create a blend that remains in the epicurean vein, with a little French touch. A little peat, sherry and grape for richness, all whilst keeping that very cereal Epicurean dimension.

Guillaume BruneauVin d'épices, Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines

In our blend, our aim was to bring out the typical Lowland profile, with its freshness and soft notes, which wasn't easy. I'll find it easier to sell, as we have seen behind the curtain!
